First Quarter Learning in Kindergarten Music

Kindergarten music students will start the year by exploring different sounds. The sounds of classroom instruments, the sounds of things around us like birds, trains and bees and the sounds we can make with our voices. The different kinds of voices we can use and when we use them is the next big idea Kindergarten will learn.

Second Quarter Learning in Kindergarten Music

Using he voice and practicing good technique for singing and playing instruments continues from the first quarter, and music for different purposes is the next big focus in Kindergarten music. Students will experience and describe the difference between lullabies and marches. Students will also identify music that is for different holidays and music that is for different celebrations.

Third Quarter Learning in Kindergarten Music

Kindergarten music students study music opposites during the third quarter of the year. Through songs, games and classical music examples, Kindergarteners will listen to, move to, draw and perform loud/soft, fast/slow, and high/low.

After these opposites are studied, melodic and rhythmic opposites are learned. Students will listen for and move to melody that goes up and melody that goes down. The rhythmic opposites of beat/no beat will be explored through movement, drawing and performance.
Fourth Quarter Learning in Kindergarten Music

The final quarter will be devoted to practicing and preparing all of the musical ideas Kindergarteners have learned for a graduation performance on their last day.
