Alderton will return to lead Bayfield Primary School for another year

Earlier this spring, Mrs. Alderton announced her retirement effective June 30, 2025, but recent events have caused her to reconsider that retirement decision. Ms. Alderton will work a shortened contract, consistent with transition years, as approved by the Bayfield School Board of Directors.

“We are excited that Jan Alderton is available to continue the strong work she has led at BPS for the last three years as Principal,” Superintendent Leon Hanhardt said.

District leaders said they are very grateful that the staff and students at BPS will continue to benefit from Alderton’s years of experience, and her steady, student-focused leadership for another school year.

“We strongly believe that this course of action is best for our Bayfield Primary School students, staff, and families,” Hanhardt acknowledged.

Alderton admitted when her retirement was announced in January that the decision was somewhat bittersweet, and that she would like to keep leading the school. When circumstances changed, she accepted an opportunity to continue serving students and families in Bayfield.

She also said she is excited to be able to work with the team at Bayfield Primary School for another year.

“I care deeply about this school and district, and all of the people I work with, and I look forward to working alongside them for one more school year,”  Alderton said.
