My name is Madeline Shea and I am so excited to learn, laugh and grow with you and your child as his/her first grade teacher! This will be my thirteenth year of teaching, and my fourth year specializing in first grade! I am beginning my third year working at Bayfield Primary School. I have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Reading and Writing with Colorado State Endorsements as a Reading Teacher and a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. In addition, I am a certified American Montessori Teacher of Early Education.
On a more personal note, I am originally from New York, where the majority of my family is still from. After college I moved to Denver, Colorado to complete a year in AmeriCorps. I loved living in Denver for twelve years before moving to Durango. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time outside with my dog, rafting, mountain biking and camping! I enjoy laughing and spending time with my friends and family.
This year our first grade class has the wonderful opportunity of hosting Emily Miller in our classroom as a full time Boettcher Teaching Resident. The Boettcher program is an alternative teaching licensure program where residents can apprentice in the classroom to grow in their practice. As the year progresses, Emily will take over more responsibility in the classroom. I am so excited to welcome Emily to our classroom family!
Please see below for Emily’s personal introduction:
I’ve spent the last 8 years as a stay-at-home mom to two little boys (6 and 8) and teaching Spanish part-time to preschoolers. I’m very excited to move into the classroom full-time this year! I love to go hiking with my family and take our dog, Mozzy, running on the trails near our house. I’m from Mississippi but have lived in Durango since 2002.
We are so excited for the 2018-2019 school year!
