BPS hosts Western HoeDown for family and friends

2nd graders dance the HoeDown.

Students celebrated (and shared) their newfound knowledge by inviting friends and family to a HoeDown, where they performed the Virginia Reel before inviting all attendees to participate in the dance.

Through the CKLA Skills lessons, students are learning how to use quotation marks to show dialogue. They are also reading and spelling words with "ar," "or," and "er," and learning how to write contractions.

Dancers twist to the music.

In math, the second graders are learning how to add a pair of two-digit numbers together using strategies such as an open number line. In

writing, they are drafting opinion paragraphs using supporting reasons, details, and a concluding statement with linking language.

Second grade teachers are prepared to meet with parents at upcoming conferences on Oct. 21 and Oct. 23, and look forward to sharing more about what their students are doing in their classes.

Dancers smile as they spin across the floor.
